About Global Restoration Initiative: Assisting Global Partners around
the World
Global Restoration Initiative (GRI) is a Houston, Texas-based 501(c)3
non-profit organization that was formed specifically to address the
holistic needs of our international partners: mind, body, and spirit.
GRI endeavors to make a tangible impact in the development of the residents,
the institutions, and the communities of our partners in foreign countries
that our organization feels it can make a lasting impact upon and that
have reached out to GRI for assistance.
GRI assists the people of various international countries in helping
themselves and those in their surrounding regions and communities, and
it will bring about transformation for international communities for
the benefit of not only themselves, but also the world that surrounds
them; for if one corner of the world is in crisis, such a crisis affects
the entire global community.
The Mission of Global Restoration Initiative: Raising Awareness
& Resource Distribution
The mission of GRI is to identify and raise awareness of the problems
concerning its partners in various countries around the world and to
accumulate and distribute the resources that will allow us to address
the spiritual, health, educational, and community development needs
of our worldwide GRI partners. This initiative differs from other U.S.-based
programs in that it is a comprehensive global development initiative
that focuses on the establishment of on-going, long-term relationships—unlike
many other programs—that will improve the quality of life for
our partners across the world.
The strength of our organization, as well as our main purpose, is to
1) make lasting, tangible deposits in the country each time that we
visit and 2) to form lasting relationships with the officials and the
people of our GRI partner countries such that we stay in constant contact
with them, assisting them in capacity-building activities even in our
absence from the country.
The Objectives of Global Restoration Initiative: Holistic Development
for the Global Community
GRI promotes five impact objectives for development within the communities
of its international partners that comprise a holistic approach to the
advancement of these regions, and consequently, the advancement of the
global community.
Though there are several impact objectives within the Initiative, GRI’s
most critical, prioritized projects will be those that address the immediate
needs of our global partners. Each year, the Initiative will build upon
the resources and services that it delivers to its global partners during
its annual mission to each respective country. Within each of these
impact objectives lay a number of specific objectives designed to enhance
the quality of life in each of the respective areas for GRI partners
around the world:
1. Medical / Health
2. Education
3. Community Development
4. Micro Enterprise Development
5. Spiritual Development
Through various outreach applications in the Greater Houston, Texas
and surrounding areas, we endeavor to establish ambassador-type relationships
between concerned citizens in these local Texas cities and our global
partners. It is our aim to enlist the assistance of thousands of people
who are willing to partner with the Initiative to help gather resources,
financial capital, and supplies for the investment in improvements that
will make the communities of our GRI partners around the world healthier,
safer, and more modernized.
The Vision of Global Restoration Initiative
Through the strategic efforts of GRI, we envision sanitary, stable,
self-sufficient global communities with adequate educational facilities
that will academically and technically train both children and adults
for increased opportunities in the job market, thus contributing to
a healthier economic outlook for the residents of their respective countries.
Further, we envision the development of hundreds of micro enterprises
that will create wealth within the communities of our global partners
while employing thousands of individuals. Our vision entails bringing
a lasting presence of medical assistance to the country’s residents,
modernizing hospitals, and establishing satellite clinics in rural areas.
Finally, our vision entails having the global GRI partners that we assist
turn around and provide assistance to the local neighbors in their region.
Meeting the Needs of Our Partners: Donations and Delegations
We desire to make a tangible impact on people in select areas of the
global community by traveling to the country each year to meet needs
in the areas of health, social capacity-building, micro-enterprise development,
and education. These needs are met through the donation of tons of medical
supplies, medical equipment, books, computers, clothing, building supplies
and materials, vehicles, and other tools and equipment specifically
requested by the leaders of various GRI-sponsored global communities.
We also meet these needs by bringing in our travel delegation only the
most trained, qualified travelers to host medical clinics in remote
communities, assist at local hospitals, to teach locals how to start
a business utilizing the resources that are around them, and to teach
seminars determined by areas of greatest need (communicated to GRI by
community leaders).
African Americans and Missions: Not a Traditional Combination
Unfortunately, African Americans do not traditionally invest much of
their time or many of their resources in overseas missions, opting to
focus their energies and efforts on their own ministries and the communities
that immediately surround them instead. However, Global Restoration
Initiative is unique in that it is an African American-led organization
with a heart for global missions. Our mission as an organization is
not exclusively for the development of our own local interests. In contrast,
we at GRI choose to invest a significant portion of our time and resources
into helping not only our surrounding communities and partners throughout
the U.S., but our overseas brothers and sisters as well. As a testimony
to this fact, on our last trip to Cameroon in 2003, we were the very
first African American delegation to ever visit the country of Cameroon
for humanitarian purposes—the few other groups that had visited
had done so simply as tourists.
